Business Woman of the Year!
21st June 2017Five years on from opening their second store the Sugar & Ice team embarked on the challenge to expand their Cyril Street shop into a space approximately 3 times the size. The move took a lot of careful planning and hard work but the benefits were better than ever expected, customers could now watch our team at work, and had much more space to browse a larger selection of goods, and even attend classes at this location.
It took many people many hours to strip out and refit the building, one of the hardest tasks was filling all of the shelves (although now we have run out of room again!). I think it’s safe to say that 2009-2010 was an incredibly tough but rewarding year for Sugar & Ice. So when Debbie received a call to say she had been nominated as Business Woman of the Year she was elated, particularly as she was nominated secretly by her eldest daughter, Jessica, just being nominated felt like a win for all of the team.
Debbie was shortlisted as one of the three finalists for the Woman of Worth Awards, this meant that the shop had a visit from a camera crew and Debbie was interviewed all about her business, customers, shops and loyal team! Most of you who visit the shops regularly will know Debbie, she’s the first to admit that she isn’t business minded at all, she’d rather pop on an apron and decorate a cake than talk about a financial statement, so just being nominated for this award was a great joy.
The award ceremony took place in Derby County Football stadium with many other business women from the East Midlands and special guests including Rosemary Conley (of Rosemary Conley Weight Loss Clubs) and Josephine Fairley (of Green and Blacks Chocolate). It was a lovely day out celebrating business and great business women and it was a pleasure to attend.
During the awards ceremony all three of the finalist’s videos were shown and Debbie’s name was announced, completely shocked and unprepared she arrived on stage to collect her award, an award which she proudly and humbly still deserves today. You can see Debbie’s finalist video on our YouTube page
