Sharing the Success

We love to celebrate with our customers, whether it's celebrating your first tiered cake, your own wedding or just completely acing a technique you have been working on for a while. But sometimes we forget to share our successes with you all (it's an accident, we promise!) so we thought we ought to share with you some of our successes this past year.

Launching our first ever website

It's pretty much expected of every business, no matter the size, to have a website and finally we can proudly say we achieved it. We absolutely love our site and it was created with a lot of hard work and dedication from all of our team, they create incredible cakes each and every day which we love to share with you all, they work tirelessly to keep the shops full and tidy, and spend a lof ot their time talking with you, getting to know your projects and helping out the best they can. Over the next few months you will hopefully see some new additions to our website too, with the ability to shop our products online and even a click-and-collect service in our Coalville store.

Finalist for Independent Retail Business of the Year 2018

During May, BIRA (the British Independent Retailers Association) held an awards ceremony to bring together a wide range of retailers to celebrate their successes. Although we didn't win the award, just to be nominated and selected as a finalist was an incredible achievement. We loved being recognised for our hard work over the year by an independent planel and we couldn't have achieved this without the support from all of our incredible customers.

Winner for Independent Retail Employee of the Year 2018

When we attended the BIRA awards we had the honour of taking home an award, our team member Sophie won BIRA's employee of the year award for her efforts to transition the business over the past year, developing the brand and encouraging business growth. As part of this achievement Sophie was invited to attend the prestigious Oxford Summer School. The school takes retail managers and aspiring managers to Oxford's St Hughs College for five intesntive days of developemnt. The school ran during the end of June and it was an exciting opportunity to have Sugar & Ice promoted outside of the East Midlands, Sophie got to spend the week absorbing information from her group leader, Farfetch & Brown's L&D manager Thomas Merrigan, who volunteered his time to help inspire those in retail.  She also got to hear from the likes of Laura Brown of Harrods, and Peter Pritchard of Pets at Home to name a few, it's safe to say that everything Sophie learned during the course will see our team develop further together continuing to encourage growth and success as a local independent retailer.
