Transporting Cakes
25th September 2017No one want’s to be the person at a party who is blamed for ruining the cake! This guide is how Sugar & Ice recommend to transport their cakes, in particular stacked cakes, every effort is made to create stable and sturdy cakes but even the sturdiest cake will not survive a completely clumsy transport. Sugar & Ice would like to stress also that everyone driving should drive safely and inside the law, as at the end of the day a cake can always be remade.
- We suggest that cakes are transported flat, so we suggest clearing out your boot before you come to collect your cake! If your boot area is not flat, we recommend transporting in the flattest possible place, this can sometimes be the passenger foot well.
- It's probably best you pick up a 'Cake on Board' sign whilst you're in store to warn other driver's about your more cautious approach to corners!
- When you come to collect, Sugar & Ice will have your lovely cake ready and waiting in a cake box ready for transporting.
- The best way carry a cake is using 2 hands flat under the base, if the cake is very heavy we suggest hiring our Truckle which allows two people to carry a cake evenly.
- If you require any help with carrying your cakes to your car from either of our stores please just ask one of our team, we’ll always be happy to help.
- Have someone open the boot for you and carefully slide the cake into your car, making sure it is flat – if you have a non-stick boot mat it’s great to put the cake on top of this to avoid any risk of movement.
**Sugar & Ice DO NOT recommend that cakes held or sat on customers laps during transport in vehicle as people can overcompensate the movement of the car and cause damage to the cake**
- If it’s mid-summer and your car is extremely hot, turn the air-con on, or open a window (not one which will blow the lid off of the cake), if the cake gets very hot it will sweat and sudden movements can cause slippages.
- When you are driving with the cake it’s important to be extremely careful, yes your journey may take a little longer but it will mean you have no worries of a ruined cake!
- A lot of time and effort goes into making beautiful cakes for our customers and we do our best to make them as sturdy as possible, however they tend not to cope well with F1 speeds, Go Kart cornering and lots of sudden breaking.
- Once you have reached your destination store your cake in a cool, dry place *please not in a refrigerator or hot kitchen*.
- If it is mid-summer and you leave the cake in the car for too long it will overhead and cracks may form on the icing – which is why it’s important to take the cake inside as soon as you arrive.
